My Story

My name is Lily Jarvis. I am an Artist and Visual Arts teacher from Midway, Utah. My education started in Portland, Oregon, where I took art classes as an elementary student. This is where my love for art and creating started and grew. I then attended high school in Utah and Baltimore, Maryland, where I took art classes and discovered my passion for teaching. I studied Printmaking at Utah State University, earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts, and later pursued my Master's in Secondary Teaching at the same institution. In my meantime, I love to be outside, hiking, skiing, fishing, swimming in Alpine lakes, and spending time with my family. This is where I find so much of my inspiration, where I get my motivation to learn, grow, and help others do the same.

As an artist and educator, I am committed to the transformative power of arts education. Because my own K–12 experience lacked meaningful access to the arts, I now intentionally integrate it into my teaching. My philosophy centers on lifelong learning, listening, and using the principles of art and design to build a community grounded in dialogue, reflection, and growth. Freire’s idea that educators “make it possible for students to become themselves” (p. 23) guides my approach.

In my classroom, learning begins with curiosity and unfolds through shared exploration. Creative assessments help me support individual ways of learning while encouraging experimentation. Guided by Bloom’s Taxonomy, I help students move from foundational skills to deeper analysis and creative application.

Through my teaching experiences, I’ve learned that students thrive when they feel included and valued. By fostering empathy, meaningful critique, and collaboration, I hope to help students discover—and push beyond—their creative boundaries.
